Properties > Cross Sections > FE Mesh

Viewing the cross-section table with detail data of the finite element mesh used for calculating the integral cross-section values. The element are quadrilateral elements with possibly curved edges defined by a central node on each edge. They have a 9th node in the center point of the element. They can degenerate to a triangular element by assigning the same node number to the 3 nodes of one edge.

The window contains 4 areas: Top left the table of cross-sections with basic parameters, top right a graphic presentation of the cross-section, bottom left the table of FE elements with assigned node points and bottom right the table of coordinates of the FE node point in the cross-section coordinate system.

SettingDescription
Cross-section table (top left)
  • Group: Group name of the cross-section
  • Name: Name of the individual cross-section (variant of grouped cross-sections)
  • Catalogue Name: Name of the respective catalog cross-section in the case the cross-section has been taken over from the predefined cross-section catalog.
  • N-Part: Number of individual Parts of the cross-section
Graphic presentation (top right) The graphical view shows the cross section with all its parts. The part currently selected in the lower left table is drawn in signal color (red).
  • GraphSet: Function for modification of the presentation (selection of presented properties of the whole cross-section.
  • Mark el: Option for switching on or off the element boundary marking
  • Zoom: Option for maximizing the presentation of the current cross-section part.
Table of cross-section elements (bottom left)
  • Elem: Number of the cross-section element
  • Shear: Code, defining shear lag properties of the element
  • No: Normal element (will in any case be considered for stiffness calculation)
  • SLag-Y: Element is outside the effective width for bending in the xy-plane, i.e. the element is not considered for calculating Ay and Iz.
  • SLag-Z: Element is outside the effective width for bending in the xy-plane, i.e. the element is not considered for calculating Az and Iy.
  • R-Mx: Reduction factor for torsional stiffness
  • R-Mx: Reduction factor for vertical shear stiffness (Ay)
  • R-Mx: Reduction factor for vertical shear stiffness (Az)
  • N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6, N7, N8, N9: Numbers of the nodes of the element
  • Part: Crioss-section part to which the element belongs
Table of nodes of the element mesh
  • Node.: Reference number of the node
  • Z: z coordinates of the node in the cross-section coordinate system
  • Y: y coordinate of the node in the cross-section coordinate system
